Back Pain Treatment Near Me

Here at Salford Chiropractic Clinic we hear patients all the time telling us they found us by Googling “Back Pain Treatment Near Me” so we thought we would write a blog about how and why Chiropractic may help you.

Back pain is estimated to affect 80% of the adult population at some time in their life.  If this is a fleeting pain then thats manageable, but for patients who suffer very acute pain, or suffer with pain over a long period of time, we are here to help.

At Salford Chiropractic Clinic we help patients on a daily basis resolve their back pain and resume normal life.  The first stage in this is making a correct diagnosis. Chiropractors are awarded the courtesy title Dr, as they are classified as diagnosticians, often unlike other practitioners you may see, and are able to expertly diagnose musculoskeletal issues and then perform the appropriate treatment.

So, what could your pain be:

Back pain can be caused for numerous reasons, the most common reasons are

Joint sprain - this is when the ligament holding the spinal joints in place is “overloaded” and as such becomes sprained.  The result of this is that the spinal or pelvic joint will then “tighten up” to protect itself.  Pain and stiffness results, in any part of the back. In order to resolve such an issue its important to restore the normal movement back to the joint.  Chiropractors are experts at using gentle, precise, spinal manipulation to target these exact joints, and restore their normal movement.

Disc prolapse/ slipped disc - disc issues are a common cause of back pain and can range from mild ache and stiffness in the back, to acute pain in the area and radiating down into the leg.  When the disc protrudes, the surrounding spinal joints will typically tighten up and become restricted, also causing pain.  With gentle and appropriate care, these joints can be mobilised to regain normal function.

Muscle ache - with over use, in addition to spinal joints, muscles can be over worked and generate pain.  Using gentle techniques and often Dry Needling (a form of acupuncture), these muscles can easily be released during your appointment.

A few videos we have made over the years to help patients decide if Chiropractic is for them and give information on the issues.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR APPOINTMENT

Initial Consultation (which includes first treatment)

During the initial consultation with your Chiropractor, they will make sure to take a thorough case history of your condition, including any relevant medical information.  They will then complete an orthopaedic and neurological examination with you, in addition to a chiropractic assessment.  All this information ensure they are able to make a confident diagnosis of your condition.  Chiropractors are classified as “diagnosticians”, since their 4 to 5 year degree programme gives them the medical and anatomical knowledge to understand the workings of the human body and therefore know what and why issues arise.

Once a diagnosis is made, they can explain this in detail to you and the discuss the treatment options for your case.  The first treatment is done during your initial consultation appointment, providing it is medically appropriate.

Treatment

The most common treatment methods used by our chiropractors are a combination of manipulation, mobilisation, soft tissue work and dry needling (a form of acupuncture). Some, or all of these methods may be used during your treatment, depending on your issue.

Follow up Appointments

Some patients only need 1 appointment.  Many patients need a few appointments, since the body has “memory” and when manipulation and soft tissue work is used, the body only “listens” for a short time and then goes back to the way it was.  This is why we talk about “retraining” the body.  Experience tells us that normally within 3-4 appointments a patient should be significantly better, if not sooner.
