Sciatica refers to pain in the leg which originates from the lower back. Specifically it refers to pain that is generated from the Sciatic nerve in the lower back and consists of pain in the buttock, back of the thigh, back of the calf and sole of foot.
However, the term is used more loosely with some as simply referring to leg pain originating from the back. We can experience leg pain due to a lack of function in the spinal joints of the lower back, or of the sacroiliac joint, which is where the pelvis attaches onto the lumbar spine.
Leg pain can also be caused by a “slipped disc”, “trapped nerve” and occasionally from muscular complaints. All these issues we see daily in practice and your Chiropractor is qualified to be able to confidently diagnose your issue and discuss with you the cause of your problem.
A treatment plan can then be put in place.
