Neck headaches are a secondary headache, which means that caused by another ailment or problem these are caused by irritations the nerves and muscles at the top of the neck that extended into the head or refer pain up into this area. Its’almost the same as having a pain that extends into your arm or into your leg accept instead we experience these as a headache. The good news is something that we see daily and specialize in treats and successfully people with Cervicogenic headaches will often have stiffness or lack of range of motion in the neck and will often be intensified with certain head motions the most common one is looking Directly up over your head with your neck extended i.e looking up over your head will often intensify or worsen these symptoms.

These headaches are normally felt at the base of the skull but can often extend into the temples the front of the head or even into the eye area you may even find yourself trying to massage the neck when these headaches come on.

Here are some tips to help you at home;

Try and make sure that you’re drinking plenty of water at least two and a half litres a day

Making sure that you’re not spending long periods of time with your head to extended backwards over your neck a gentle pressure into the muscles of the top of the neck and the base of the skull using the pads of your thumbs can often provide short term relief an assessment of your head and neck are first necessary
